With over 42 years of experience as a mechanical engineer in Suriname, Floris Betrouw has led major industrial maintenance projects, oil refinery operations, powerplant turnarounds, and cement industry solutions. His expertise in mechanical engineering, project management, and equipment reliability has supported Suriname’s key industries, from energy and oil & gas to manufacturing and construction.

Flo-Collection Consultancy (2023 – Present)

At Flo-Collection, Floris supports industries with feasibility studies, prototype development, and technical problem-solving. He helps companies turn ambitious ideas into workable solutions, while ensuring safety, cost control, and efficiency remain front and center. His recent work includes projects in the cement industry that reshaped production reliability.

Pansa N.V. Machine Shop (2021 – 2023)

As Shop & Field Manager, Floris guided workshop operations and field services that supported Suriname’s oil & gas sector. From heavy equipment inspections to precision repairs, his leadership kept demanding projects on track. Alongside this, he led engineering teams, producing detailed project drawings and simulations that laid the groundwork for successful execution.

State Oil Refining Suriname (2015 – 2018)

In the refinery sector, Floris combined planning, coordination, and technical expertise to keep vital operations running. He balanced the complexity of mechanical systems with strict safety standards, all while ensuring projects were delivered on time. His contributions strengthened Staatsolie’s mechanical reliability during a period of high growth and demand.

Suralco Paranam Thermal Powerplant (1989 – 2015)

Over two decades at one of Suriname’s largest powerplants, Floris was at the heart of maintenance turnarounds, turbine repairs, and safety-critical operations. He oversaw large teams, optimized plant performance, and applied modern reliability methods to minimize downtime. His leadership ensured a steady supply of power while upholding international safety and quality standards.

Most recently, Floris tackled some of the toughest challenges in the cement production sector. From solving vibration issues and dust problems to doubling crane output capacity, his solutions turned bottlenecks into breakthroughs. These projects highlight his ability to see beyond the problem and design practical, lasting improvements for production facilities.
